Urban Games 2023 will include new activities and competitions, including bouldering.
Having originated as a method for climbers to practice specific moves at a safe distance fro the ground, bouldering has now evolved into its own discipline with indoor bouldering included at on the Tokyo Olympic Games calendar.
Following thorough planning and preparation, in conjunction with Flashpoint Cardiff and the British Mountaineering Council, the Urdd is delighted to be adding bouldering to the 2023 roster.
We’re looking forward to inviting climbers to Flashpoint climbing centre on the opening day of Urban Games 2023. There will be something for everyone and problems for all abilities to solve.
DJs will ensure that the place is rocking, with music and artists co-ordinated by Tafwyl.
Tom Birkhead, Urdd, said; “We’re delighted to be adding bouldering to our calendar of events for Urdd Urban Games 2023. The inaugural Games was a huge success, but we want to ensure that we build and develop the event year on year and continue to expand the range of sports on offer.”
Caryl McQuilling, Tafwyl Chief Officer added; “Big sports like bouldering deserve a big soundtrack and we’ll be on hand to deliver it! We’ll not only be helping to get the competitors in to the right frame of mind but also ensuring that the crowd is equally as buoyed for the opening night of the games. We can’t wait!”
Bouldering at Flashpoint, Friday 16th June, 2023.
